DAME Edna really is back. Her second hit Broadway show, Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance, which ran from November 21 to May 1 at New York's Music Box theatre was nominated for a Tony award yesterday in the "best special theatrical event" category. The self-proclaimed "gigastar" won a Tony in 2000 for her show Dame Edna: The Royal Tour, in a "special" category created to distinguish the "one woman" tour de force from the plays, musicals and revivals that make up the Tony award roster. This year Dame Edna is facing off against solo entertainers who might only be described as mere stars: Billy Crystal in his one-man show 700 Sundays, Whoopi Goldberg in her one-woman show Whoopi, the 20th Anniversary Show and Mario Cantone in Laugh Whore.
